Effect of Environment Friendly Technologies in Global Metal Industries

Metal is a product of a lengthy process that includes ore extraction, ore processing to remove oxides, casting, forging, and other steps. While exploiting already dwindling natural resources, this process creates huge amounts of emissions and other types of pollution.

With gradual decline in the environment, the emerging technologies have laid a pathway to potentially reduce the metal industry’s harmful impact on the planet. This may also be viewed in terms of building a circular economy rather than a linear one. Circular economies are restorative and regenerative by design and aim to keep products, components, and materials at their highest potential and value at all times. The only way to do so is to implement recycling at every level, not just in metal businesses, but also in areas where metal is utilized extensively.

Steel manufacturing, for example, has a number of side effects, including CO, SOx, NOx, PM2, water pollutants, hazardous wastes, etc. (https://www.worldsteel.org/en/dam/jcr:c3acc5fd-e3c2-458c-a2cc-8c4880b9334c/Steel%2527s+contribution+to+a+low+carbon+future.pdf). The major environmental impacts result mainly from coking process and iron manufacturing process.(https://www.worldsteel.org/en/dam/jcr:16ad9bcd-dbf5-449f-b42c-b220952767bf/fact_raw+materials_2018.pdf). In 2013 in Australia, the steelmakers began using the world’s first “green” steelmaking process. The process calls for substituting coke and coal with plastic bags and bottles that would otherwise end up in city dumps or landfills. Nearly 30% of the coke and coal has been replaced with conventional carbon-containing materials and importantly, greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and production prices all have shown a significant decline.

Carbon is a critical raw ingredient in steel production using the electric arc method. Almost 40% of the world's yearly steel production is now produced using this approach. Moreover, Veena Sahajwalla discovered that recycled truck tyres are a more environmentally friendly alternative to coal (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veena_Sahajwalla). It could prevent over 2 million tires from ending up in landfills while simultaneously creating a renewable energy source.

“Trash for cash” is the new order of the day in a growing industry known as secondary metals. Metal recycling companies in UAE that are equipped with technology that is both sustainable and energy efficient have a big role to play. In the metal industry, such companies have a pivotal role in developing the “Green” attitude in the metal industry. Scrap metal yards in Dubai, for instance, helps in spearheading metal recycling and contributes to both ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals that can be processed back to a form of raw material that can be used to form new metal alloys.

The global market for metal scrap has significantly grown over time. With advancements made in the recycling technologies and awareness that drives the sustainable approach, it is indisputable that this trend will continue to move upwards with iron, steel, and stainless-steel scrap.

Efficient use of Scrap Metals

Recycling has myriad of benefits – not only economically, but also environmentally and ecologically. Metal recycling helps in reducing mining and reduces the amount of waste that goes into landfills. Not all businesses can afford manufacturing using virgin metal, recycled metals cost relatively lower while preserving the integrity of the metal. In fact, some countries that do not have rich metal resources often import recycled metal or metal scraps to meet the demand. While we are aware of the benefits of metal scrap metals and its recycling, it is only possible when the scrap metals are used in an efficient manner.

Steel is one of the most used metal that does not lose its properties in recycling process, even when alloys are mixed in the process. Using the blast arc furnace, steel can be produced entirely from scrap, without requiring iron ore or coke. Stainless steel scrap market in Dubai is a hot bed for such initiatives. By integrating steel scraps into steel making process, businesses and organization can contribute towards a sustainable circular economy.

Metal is used extensively in household and other FMCG products, like canned food and beverages. The aluminum packaging used contains some amount of recycled metals. Some companies, in a bid to promote sustainability, use 100% recycled metal for the packaging. Due to the nature of these goods, the recycled metals can be back in market in form of packaging of a new product in approximately 60 days. Recycled aluminum requires less processing. Not only it is energy efficient, but also economical for low-value products.

A huge amount of ferrous scrap comes from automobiles. UAE has huge demand of cars and other vehicles that have a potential of recycling. Apart from the conventional methods and ways in which automobile scraps are recycled, many artists have turned the scrap into artwork. Recently, Tariq Al Salman, an artist from Ras Al Khaimah used iron scrap to create a sculpture of corona virus. The artist wanted to represent the effects of the virus on life today. https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/art/ras-al-khaimah-artist-turns-scrap-metal-into-a-sculpture-of-covid-19-virus-1.1028715 Not only such instances help in creating awareness, but also promotes unconventional methods of metal recycling.

It is important to note that benefits of recycling can only be reaped with awareness – the general public should be educated about segregation. Often, metal scraps are not recycled to their potential due to lack of segregation and recycling knowledge. Segregation and collection of various scrap metals differ on basis of their value. Accordingly, the recycled metal scrap can be sold to scrap buyers in Dubai or recycling companies in the UAE. Lucky Recycling, part of Lucky Group is one such trustworthy name in the country that ensures using energy efficient recycling process and follows a diligent course to make optimum utilization of the resources.

Is it so difficult to live an environmentally friendly life?

A small change that can not only impact the people but also make a contribution to reducing climate change in your daily lives is truly an environmentally friendly life.  But is it really difficult to live an environmentally friendly life?

No, because there are various ways an individual can make sustainable changes that not only help the environment, but one can benefit financially, physically and mentally as well.

If we observe the recent history, industrial and technology revolution in the past few year’s governments, businesses and individuals around the world are switching to eco-friendly lifestyles that contributes positively towards the environment and opt for more sustainable solutions like petrol vehicles  that are a major cause of global warming, mainly due to the amount of pollution it emits. In the past, petrol was the only option but now we have alternate choices. Now electric and hybrid cars are increasing in popularity as they emit must less emissions.

Solar panels are an example of a renewable energy technology that uses the sun as an energy source.

Actually, there are many ways to contribute to climate change but we do not know where to begin.

Let us start from our homes as homeowners we can do plenty of things to make our homes more eco-friendly such as to open windows to let in the fresh air; open blinds to let in natural light; do not let water run while brushing your teeth; stop printing unnecessary documents; plant a tree; use energy-efficient appliances and electronics; reduce our food wastes; recycle metal cans and newspapers, etc.

Since humankind cannot decrease its dependency on metals, the only other available option is to recycle scrap metal because recycling activities not only have great environmental benefits but also help with economic growth and power conservation.

Recycling is a very cost effective procedure. Selling of scrap metals can earn your business some additional income. Scrap buyers in Dubai & waste management companies are big contributors taking a step towards eliminating waste & increasing metals recycling. Metal recycling especially has been considered a lot more because the demand for metals like aluminum, copper, steel, brass etc. has been increasing with time. This is a practice that definitely should be encouraged and practiced widely.

Recycling and environment go hand in hand complementing each other. This process saves our planet from many hazards right from pollution to the emission of hazardous gases, from saving up on the landfill spaces to helping in conserving the conventional resources. It helps a great deal to limit the need for raw materials when recycled scrap can be used as good as new for manufacturing products.

Therefore, it is a high time that these efforts are appreciated and valued and the number of people joining this cause increases. Urban miners in Dubai, Lucky Group strives continually to ensure that the metal trash is recycled efficiently.

You can contact your nearest Recycling companies in UAE and ask them to collect things from your place, or you can yourself drop them off to these places. Thus, these are a few things which can help you to do your bit towards the society and the environment.

Is Disposing Trash in one bin Cheaper than Segregating it?

We are sure this question must have popped up in your mind at least once; “is it really worth segregating all my trash?” If you love the environment, then you probably would not need a valid reason. Else, if you are one of those who would simply recycle because the law forces you to, then this thought would have definitely come across your mind, every single time you sat down to segregate your daily trash.

Recycling can be simply defined as the process in which used materials can be processed into new products to prevent the waste of the remainder, while reducing the consumption of virgin materials for producing other new products. Simply put, it is environmentally good to recycle. “But isn’t disposing trash together in one garbage bag cheaper?” one may ask.

Just in case you are not aware about this, but it is a fact that landfills, worldwide are filling up—and fast. The worldwide population is rising to unprecedented levels and there is no space to get rid of the trash that we generate on a day-to-day basis. This is where we come back to your question; to which the answer is a big ‘NO’. Governments and municipalities worldwide are paying large sums of money for getting rid of humongous amounts of waste into landfills.

Some people would say “why don’t we simply sort things out instead of dumping them in and then sorting everything out?” well that is because we as human beings lack the initiative to do the same. If all of us segregated our trash there would be no need to open up landfills as only organic waste would land up in there. Governments spend enormous amounts of funding on garbage recycling facilities only because the people would simply refuse to segregate different types of recyclable items thus they do find their way back to the Metal Recycling companies in Dubai for their valuable waste metals.

Recycling at home, kills the problem from the root, segregating trash at its origin; and is right about the best thing one can do to save this planet. After all it is we who are stuck here on the third rock from the Sun; and there is—as of today—no other place to go.

Urban miner, the Lucky Group’s experience and association with multiple countries in the Middle East helps the environment in getting rid of all the scrap metal while reducing the need for mining which damages our beautiful planet. Lucky Recycling is known for metal recycling and giving the best product out of it also it is an active and conscious body that provide help not only to the surrounding market but also to the international market.

THANK YOU FOR THE LESSONS, 2020.

The year 2020 can be defined as overwhelming, unexpected challenging and uncertain due to aviation accidents, celebrity deaths and various natural disasters including the COVID-19 pandemic faced by billions of humans around the world.

COVID 19 pandemic has hit economic activities globally, thus metal recycling companies in Dubai have been affected too. The pandemic and ensuing lockdown restrictions have disrupted the supply chain and hampered the collection of scrap metals and its availability in Scrap metal yards in Dubai. Further, industrial units including automotive and construction industries have either slowed-down or halted their activities. This implied low generation of scrap metals from such sectors and hence low supplies to Dubai scrap yards and across the UAE. If you want to know more about will the metal recycling business be able to pick up the pace once again after the pandemic read this blog post http://blog.luckygroup.com/2020/11/will-metal-recycling-business-be-able.html

Contribution of Scrap Metal Industry toward Global World Industrialization

The word ‘SCRAP’ is a wide term consisting of recyclable and leftover materials, collected from manufactured and consumed products like the parts of automobiles, surplus materials, and building supplies. The term ‘WASTE’ should not be confused with scrap. Scrap has a monetary value and can be recycled, unlike waste.

So, why should we recycle scrap? And how does it help the economy? Scrap recycling is an efficient method to ignore the rising costs of mining, both economically and environmentally. As the metal is present in abundance, collecting and recycling scrap becomes easier. Recycling scrap helps us to create new products which are not only environment-friendly but also are beneficial for the industries all around the world.

Scrap when recycled, can prove to be useful in more ways than one:

Energy - The process of turning scrap metal into a new product does not require as much energy as compared to producing the same product with new resources from scratch. The scrap metal is utilized to its maximum with some modification. Various industries can make use of scrap metals to conserve energy and create new products with less resources, all adding up to the upliftment of the world industrialization.

Economic - The scrap industry is a gateway for around fifty-thousand jobs ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrap) and proves to be a great help for the unemployed crowd of a country. In these stressful Covid-19 days, where the economy of the whole world is shaken, the scrap metal recycling industry becomes fruitful in contributing to the economy bit-by-bit. Besides helping the economy, the costs of producing new metals can be eliminated by using the metal scrap as base. The utility provided by the scrap industry has provided an impetus to the slowed-down industries not only in the UAE, but also globally.  Industries using recycled scrap metals not only help in continued operations, but also by reducing the use of natural resources, conserving energy, boosting economic growth and employment, etc.

A major part of scraps are alloys. Depending upon the elements present in the alloy, the scrap could fetch considerable value.  Aluminium and aluminium alloy scraps fetch good value in the market. (https://www.singletonscrapmetal.co.uk/news/which-scrap-metals-will-earn-you-the-most-money/). Lucky Recycling is one of the best recycling companies in UAE which has its key interest in scrap recycled products.

In trying times as such, the slogan, “reduce, reuse, recycle” should be followed and taken seriously by individuals and companies. Lucky Group is the most efficient scrap buyer in Dubai, Jebel Ali, Toronto, Miami, and Shanghai. This organization also has a separate sector for recycling, named Lucky recycling. It strives towards providing the best management and all kinds of ecological benefits.

Recycling Professionals

Recycling is one of the most important practices which help the society in resource management, lessened landfill usage and productive administration of constrained assets. People are aware of recycling paper and plastic yet sadly a great many people do not have awareness about recycling metals.

Recycling and reusing metals has various benefits that are related to resources and environment. Recycling diverts valuable resources from landfills, diminishing the requirement to extract from earth and add to the colossal saving emissions of greenhouse gas.

What Happens when it's recycled?

Many metal scrap recycling companies in Dubai are protecting the environment. The need for recycling has been stressed more than ever. Metal recycling involves certain steps for them to become viable raw materials again.

Collection

The first step is the collection of scrap metals. Millions of tons of scrap metal reach the industry. These include tin cans, old appliances, and metallic industrial wastes. All the scrap is collected and sent for sorting in order to segregate the metal types.

Sorting

All the items that have been collected need to be sorted based on their chemical compositions, grades, and quality. Sorting is an important factor to be considered in separating recyclable items that are highly contaminated. For the recycled metal to be free of impurities, its base material also needs to be in good condition.

Processing

The next step is to place the scrap metal in a baling machine where it is compressed to be able to maximize space and reduce melting loss.

Shredding

After processing, some of the metals are shredded into thin pieces. Steel items are cut into small blocks. Small sizes of blocks are easier for melting.

Melting

The raw materials are then placed on a furnace for melting. The molten liquid is casted into ingots using various methods. It is then cooled and sent to the mills to be converted into reusable products.

There are many companies that deal in scrap metals and offer a mix of services like drop-off, pick up and on-location collection bins especially for ferrous scrap metals. Lucky Recycling is a well-known company that deals in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. It has its name not only in Dubai but all over the globe. They obtain scrap metals from Dubai scrap yards handling with high quality standards and well equipped with latest technology so that they can manage huge quantity of melting scrap can be delivered to their clients on time.

Recycling metals also reduces chemical pollution. Recycling metals reduces the emissions and amount of fuel that could have been used for transportation. Landfill sites are not only an unpleasant sight but also one of the largest sources of pollution. Recycling metals will help reduce the landfill sites.

Hence, we see that many recycling companies in UAE help in preserving our environment. Look for Lucky Group for recycling of metals.

Landfill Mining: Is it worth the trouble?

Landfill mining started-off back in 1953 in Israel and the rest of the world has only begun to catch up with it recently. The advantages and disadvantages of landfill mining are something that most corporations would not readily answer. The reason why it has caught up only recently was simply because there were other more important events that took place after 1953 after which most countries forgot about the whole concept. Landfill mining is profitable. It is known fact that more aluminium can be extracted from a landfill as compared to extracting aluminium from ores from a similar area of mined land.

Metal recyclers in Dubai recycling companies in Dubai

Landfill mining has its advantages; it allows better aeration of the soil in the area, while the mining company recovers valuable recyclable materials which allows for less material to dump back in (creating that extra space). Most people see this as a way of protecting the environment by cleaning up the soil doing the world a favour. The reason why landfill mining has taken off is simply because it is more profitable. It is more profitable to extract a tonne of aluminium via landfill mining, than to extract ores from the earth’s crust, process it and then using power hungry (expensive) plasma arc reactors to create virgin aluminium.

Some people would say “why don’t we simply sort things out instead of dumping them in and then sorting everything out?” well that is because we as human beings lack the initiative to do the same. If all of us here in Dubai segregated our trash there would be no need to open up landfills as only organic waste would land up in there. Governments spend enormous amounts of funding on garbage recycling facilities only because the people in Dubai would simply refuse to segregate different types of recyclable items.

Metal recyclers in Dubai too suffer because of consumer misbehaviour when it comes to garbage segregation. Aluminium cans, plastics and all sorts of packaging are often dumped together only to end up at garbage recycling plant where fortunately for us, they do find their way back to the recycling companies in Dubai.

Metal recyclers in Dubai recycling companies in Dubai
So yes landfill mining is good for us but the question that we should be asking is—why are we adding to the confusion to begin with?
