Why Recycling Construction Waste is Important?

Reusing and recycling of construction materials are gaining a lot of impetus since the concern of environment is getting a lot of attention the world over. The most widely recognized strategy for discarding construction waste material in the past has been moving it to landfills. But now things have changed and now these construction organizations are presently discovering that reusing this waste is really a great alternative. These construction sites have large amounts of metal waste which can be recycled. The various reasons why  recycling construction waste is important are:

Conserves Energy

Recycling construction waste saves massive energy by diminishing the utilization of primary resources. If people learn to manage to reuse all concrete, they would be able to spare what might as well be corresponding to 1 billion gallons of fuel or the evacuation of over 1 million automobiles from the street. (please mention source here for such facts otherwise do not mention)

Reduction in Landfill Waste

Landfills are topping off which implies that it is a great opportunity to consider alternative approaches over dumping these construction waste materials into the landfill. Reusing these waste materials will enable people to use it for some other projects. The metals in these materials would then be able to be utilized for a similar reason again or can be transformed into something new.

Cost Savings

Reusing materials diminishes the cost of transfer and transportation. Furthermore, it regularly costs less to discard materials that can be reused.

Recycling Electronics

Electronic devices such as mobiles phones, tablets, PCs are being increasingly discarded used on a daily basis. These electronics contain considerable amounts of metal in them. When these electronics are no longer in use, they can be recycled in order to reduce the landfills and toxic wastes. There are a number of valuable metals found in these electronics.

The electronic waste is a rich source of precious metals such as gold that can be extracted from computers. Other precious metals that can be recovered also include silver that can be extracted from the electronics. Recovering these precious metals is not an easy task. Some of the modern recycling facilities can recover up to 95 percent of gold whereas facilities in developing countries can recover only up to 50 percent of the metal.

The metallic and non-metallic content from the electronics can be removed using magnets. Apart from gold and silver, metals like aluminum, copper, and brass are also present in the devices. The current recycling rates for electronics are quite low. Not all devices reach the recycling center. An even the ones that do, not all of its metallic content is recovered. The recycling rates can be increased by encouraging the public to recycle their used electronics and having recycling policies in companies.

Scrap Metal Shavings

Metal shavings are a common waste in any metal processing industry. Every day, several metal shavings, chips and fillings are formed during the metal manufacturing processes. A large generation of scrap is created by industrial metal drilling and grinding. These by-products can be sold at a reasonable price to an industrial metal recycling centre.

Recycling Scrap Metal Shavings

Collecting scrap metal shavings can be quite a task but there are industrial inventions to make it easier. Some commercial machine plants use metal chip vacuums that are capable of handling the sharp edges of the debris.

Recycling of metal shavings is not easy. Longer shavings tend to get entangled during the machining process. Using crushers, the entangled shaving nests are crushed into metal chips which can be transported easily. Metal shavings are also easier to melt down and can be pressed into small pellets. Using the metal briquetting system, the metal can be separated from any coolants or lubricants placed mixed with the metal.

Recycling metal shavings rather than discarding it into the landfills has environmental and financial benefits. It reduces the contamination with tramp oil and also reduces the amount of ore mining required to produce new metal. The scrap value is also a net gain apart from the costs handled for its handling and transportation.

Top 3 Metals to Sell to Scrapyards

Tens of Millions of tons of metals reach the scrap metal industry every year to be recycled. Recycling metals are important as it not only reduces the wastage that ends up in a landfill but also saves the environment. Whether you are looking for selling the scrap metal or just want to get rid of the metal parts, here are top 3 metals to sell to the metal recycling companies.

Aluminum

Aluminum is the most common metal we use in our day to day lives. It is found in beverage cans, household appliances, and automobile parts and also in aluminum wires that are found in a variety of products. A clean aluminum wire pays more than an insulated one.

Steel

Steel is extensively used in a variety of applications and is molded and welded into various parts. There are four primary types of steel- carbon, stainless, alloy and tool. Carbon and iron is found in most of the steel and it has a number of grades. Stainless steel is another common type of steel that can be sent for recycling.

Copper

Copper is a good conductor of electricity and is largely used in electrical wiring. Again, the insulated wires yield less cash compared to the clean ones. Copper tubes are a common component of plumbing. Scrapyards offer more price for copper compared to many other metals as recycling it requires much less energy than producing copper from its ore.

Metal recycling helps in preserving the natural resources. Contact Lucky group to recycle all the metal parts that you want to discard and sell.

Metal Recycling Process

Recycling is protecting the environment and the need for recycling has been stressed more than ever. Metal recycling involves certain steps for them to become viable raw materials again.

Collection

The first step is the collection of scrap metals. Millions of tons of scrap metal reach the industry. These can include tin cans, old appliances, and metallic industrial wastes. All the scrap is collected and sent for sorting in order to segregate the metal types.

Sorting

All the items that have been collected need to be sorted based on their chemical compositions, grades, and quality. While sorting, an important factor to be considered is separating recyclable items ones that are highly contaminated. For the recycled metal to be free of impurities, its base material also needs to be in good condition.

Processing

The next step is to place the scrap metal in a machine where it is compressed to be able to maximize space and reduce melting loss. This results in composite blocks (or bales) of metal.

Shredding

After processing, some of the metal is shredded cut into thin pieces. Steel items are cut into small blocks. Small sizes of blocks are easier for melting.

Melting

The raw materials are then placed on a furnace for melting. The molten liquid is purified using various methods. It is then cooled and sent to the mills to be converted into reusable products.

How to Remove Rust from Metals

Monsoon is here and it enhances the rate of rusting due to excessive moisture in the air. Preventing the metals from rusting is a continuous effort for all homeowners. Removing rust from scrap metals will yield you more money while selling it to dealers.  Here are some tips to help you get rid of the rust from metals.

1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a common ingredient available in almost every household. Mix baking soda with water and apply a thin layer of it on the metal. Leave it for 15-20 mins. Then scrub off the area using an abrasive. This process may have to be repeated twice or thrice depending on the amount of rusting.

2. White Vinegar

Because of its acidic properties, white vinegar is very effective when it comes to removal of rust. Rust from outdoor metal furniture and metal tools can be removed by rinsing each with vinegar leaving it for 10 mins. Later use a scrubber or a rag to wipe it off.

3. Lemon and Salt

While salt acts as an abrasive, the citric acid in lemon helps to remove even the stubborn rust. Squeeze lemon into a bowl and add some amount of salt to it. Apply this mixture on the rusted areas and scrub it off after few hours.

A Guide To Selling An Old Refrigerator As Scrap Metal

A lot of home appliances can be recycled to get the most value out of it. Recycling used appliances helps the environment. Here is a guide to help you recycle an old refrigerator.

Metals like steel, copper, and aluminum can be found in the refrigerator scrap. In order to make more money, the metals need to be separated and scrapped individually.  Inside the refrigerator, you can find aluminum racks, shelves, and dividers. Aluminum is also present in the freezer. Use wire cutters to cut the outer layer of the power cord and remove the protective coating in order to get to the copper wire. Using a magnet you will get to know which parts are metals and which are not.

Locate the copper lines that contain the chemical Freon. Since this chemical is hazardous to the ozone layer, it requires a professional who is certified to remove it. The removal of Freon requires the use of proper tools and EPA Certification. Look for local companies that rebuild air conditioners that may take the Freon.

The compressor can be sold as a whole to metal recyclers. Inside the compressor, you will find the copper motor. Cut the refrigerator into manageable parts so that it is easy to transport it. Separate all the parts based on the metal type. Some of the new refrigerators also come with stainless steel on their bodies and doors. Look for scrap metal dealers in Dubai to get the most out of your old refrigerator.
